TRACE & Ariel Loh
Friends and music collaborators TRACE and Ariel Loh came together to rework a cover of Sài Gòn, a classic Vietnamese song that Trace’s mother sang over 40 years ago. In the studio, they sought to transform its upbeat French New Wave pop sound into a more contemplative, ambient rendition—one that would highlight the song’s profound meaning as an anthem during the Vietnam War. Through its intentional production, intimate vocals, and deeply emotional arrangement, their version of Sài Gòn carries a quiet heartbreak, yet remains a song of comfort and healing. Being used in the New Wave documentary felt completely meant to be and quite perfect in its placement in the film.
